Description:

Made by and labeled "David T. Van Zandt, Seattle, WA 2018".  This violin is inspired by Joseph Guarneri, Del Gesu, CA 1735.

I have known about David T. Van Zandt since I was a teenager after happening upon his very informative website, where he showcased his beautiful making and gave links to many other resources in the violin trade.  He must have been one of the first violin makers to have a presence on the internet.  Since I've played a number of his instruments, have met him, and I've become quite the admirer of his work and the way he handles himself in the violin world.  He has been very successful in his making, and continues to inspire and help many new makers.  It's apparent that David strives for absolute perfection in everything he does.  I'm very pleased to be able to offer this instrument at The Fiddle Mercantile.

A little more about Mr. Van Zandt...  David T. Van Zandt graduated from the Violin Making School in Salt Lake City in 1983 where he made and sold first violin in 1980. Upon graduation, he then moved to New York City and worked with William L. Monical and Son for repair and restoration practice. In 1987, he established his Seattle workshop, which has ties the Oberlin Violin Makers Workshop and prominent player communities in the city. Van Zandt makes his own varnish using natural resins and drying oils and makes instruments by hand. He also does darkroom photography.
